One of the most pressing challenges that the United States—and indeed, the whole world　will face in the next few decades is how to alleviate the growing stress that human activities are placing on the environment. As a matter of fact, the consequences are just too great to ignore. Wildlife habitats are being degraded or disappearing altogether as new developments take up more land. Plant and animal species are becoming extinct at a greater rate now than at any time in Earth’s history. As many as 30 percent of the world’s fish stocks are overexploited. And it is obvious that the list goes on.

Section B
Directions: Translate the following passage into English. Write your translation on the ANSWER SHEET.
如果你想在谈话中用幽默来使人发笑的话，你就必须知道如何确定你与其他人有相同的经历和问题。你的幽默一定要和听众有关，应该有助于表明你是他们中间的一员，或者你了解他们的处境，赞同他们的观点。针对不同的谈话对象，你要谈的问题就应该有所不同。

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition of no less than 150 words on “Do We Need Hearing?” as its title. Your composition should be based on the following message given in Chinese. Give at least two reasons to support your choice. Please remember to write your composition clearly on the COMPOSITION SHEET.
