　　Maybe you are preparing to study abroad, but are you ready for it? Do you have particular（特定的） goals（目标） that you want to achieve? Or are you just following the crowd?

　　Among the fair（展览）s anxious（焦虑的） visitors were many young students from middle schools. But, most of these young visitors did not have a clue about what they would be studying, or why they wanted to go abroad in the first place.

　　"If you are able to deal with other cultures（文化）, to live independently （独立的） - and that includes taking physical care of and making careful decisions for yourself," Fu Bo, an official at the China Education Association for International Exchange （中国教育国际交流协会） said, "then you are ready."

　　也许你正准备出国留学（you are preparing to study abroad），但是你准备好了吗？你出国有特定的目标吗？（Do you have particular goals that you want to achieve）还是仅仅在跟随潮流？（Or are you just following the crowd）

　　在这些因渴望出国而来参加展览的人中，（Among the fairs anxious visitors）有很多仍在中学就读的学生。（were many young students from middle schools）然而他们中的大多数人对自己将要就读的专业一无所知，（most of these young visitors did not have a clue about what they would be studying）甚至连自己为何要出国留学都不知道。（or why they wanted to go abroad in the first place）

　　in the first place字面上看是“在第一个地方”，也可以理解为“开始的地方”“第一步”，其实就是“首先”的意思，举个例子：

　　In the first place, we should solve this problem.首先,我们应该解决这个问题。

　　"如果你能够适应不同的文化，（If you are able to deal with other cultures）能够独立生活（to live independently）——这包括照顾自己的饮食起居以及为自己做出慎重决定的能力，（hat includes taking physical care of and making careful decisions for yourself）"中国教育国际交流协会的一名官员，傅波，说道，“那才说明你真正做好了准备。”

　　「句型留言板」

　　今天的句型是deal with，最常用的意思是“对付，应付”。

　　外国人崇尚独立的人格和独立的生活，所以在老外面前经常说上一句I can deal with it!（我能搞定！）可能会为你赢得更多尊重。

　　当然，人非生而知之，许多东西都要通过认真的学习和艰苦的努力才能掌握，下面这个人就是如此，大家都为这个年轻人的进步而高兴，他们说：

　　He has learnt to deal properly with all kinds of complicated situations.
　　他已学会恰当地应付各种复杂局面。

　　（在deal和with之间可以加入适当的副词。）

　　不过，如果我们说deal with sb可不是“把某人搞定（有点类似黑帮的暗语）”的意思，而是与……交往（有生意往来），比如：

　　Ive dealt with them for a long time.
　　我已经和他们合作很久了。

　　而一本书或者一次演讲deal with sth，则是指“论及、涉及”的意思，比如：

　　These ideas are dealt with more fully in Chapter Four.
　　在第四章会更详尽地阐述这些观点。
