Mrs. Jones was still cleaning the house when her husband came back from work. She was wearing dirty， old clothes and no stockings， her hair was not tidy， she had dust on her face， and she looked dirty and tired. Her husband looked at her and said， “Is this what I come home to after a hard days work？” Mrs. Joness neighbor， Mrs. Smith， was there. When she heard Mr. Joness words， she quickly said goodbye and ran back to her house. Then she washed， brushed and combed her hair carefully， put on her best dress and her prettiest stockings， painted her face， and waited for her husband to come home.

When he arrived， he was hot and tired. He walked slowly into the house， saw his wife and stopped. Then he shouted angrily， “And where are you going this evening？”

琼斯夫人的丈夫下班回到家的时候，她仍在打扫房间。她穿着一身又脏又旧的衣服，没穿长统袜，披头散发，满脸灰尘，显得又脏又累。丈夫看到她这副模样，说道：“难道我辛苦工作了一天，回到家就是为了看你这副模样吗？”

琼斯夫人的邻居史密斯夫人当时也在场。听了琼斯先生这番话，她赶紧告辞，跑回家去。她又洗又刷，仔细地梳理好头发，穿上最漂亮的衣服和最美丽的长统袜，以脸上擦了些粉，然后静候丈夫回来。

丈夫到家时又热又累。他慢慢踱进房间，看见妻子这副打扮，停下了脚步，怒不可遏地大叫：“你今晚打算上哪儿去？”
