desirable：多姿多彩的“好” 说好说歹，评头品足，是说话的常务之一。比如写作，就经常要干这件事。 除了good, 你还会什么？ 比如要找个理想的(ideal/desirable)郎君：有财（wealthy/rich)、有才(talented)、有貌(good-looking)。 “理想的”，就是符合我们的想法idea, 或者希望desire, 所以有ideal, desirable。 讲得通俗一点，desirable就是“好的”，有时可替换我们脱口而出的good, very good之类。 I wonder if this is the desirable approach to English vocabulary. 我怀疑这是不是搞定英语词汇的好办法。 这以下从构成上看似是而非、朦朦胧胧的几个词，咱们可以将计就计，朦胧为“好”可也。 College offers nothing more than a more favorable environment for study. 我要收藏 College offers no more than a preferable circumstance for study. College offers nothing but a more agreeable climate for study. 三句的意思都是“大学不过是为学习提供一个更好的环境而已”。（注意体会不同的表达法：只是、更好、环境） favor A over B, prefer A to B都是“喜欢A胜于B”，favorable/preferable字面上就是“更被喜欢的”，引申成“好的”，还好；只是be preferable to有比较的含义，相当于be better than。 The context at college is preferable to that elsewhere. 大学的环境比其它地方的环境优越。 还有一个重量级的词是advisable，核心意义也是“好”。现在学会了从构成上看：advise是“提建议”。 It may well be advisable not to go to college for some high school students. 对一些中学生来说，不上大学可能也是“好的”/“可行的”/“合理的”（可作为建议来提的）。 概括起来就是：advisable, agreeable, favorable, desirable, preferable核心意义都是好；be preferable to是比什么更好，advisable用于说做某件事情（可行/明智）。 之前，我们也会一些好：nice/kind是心肠好；well则指身体好。 接着再解剖一下able/ible这个青梅竹马的词尾巴。意思我们都知道“能够/可以”。老鞋要罗嗦的是： 一、意味着形容词 不再多举例，自己可想想。 二、意味着被动 试辨析： a lovable mother和a loving mother 前者是“可爱的娘”，后者是“爱心妈妈”。注意本质是主被动之别：可爱，即是“被喜爱”；有爱心，是爱别人。 思考题： respectful, respectable: 哪个是“可敬”，哪个是“恭敬有礼”？ imaginative, imaginable, imaginary: 还记得吗：可以想象的、富有想象力的、想象的？ credible, incredible, credulous: 难以置信、可信、轻信？ 上次思考题解答： interim government: 过渡政府（新旧政府之间） internship指实习，是在学习与工作之间的阶段。
