Like father, like son
Words: about 330. Time: 4 mins
In America, there are always two or three children in one family. This makes the relationships very interesting and strong as the children grow up.
Often the father will be closer to his son, but this favoritism is not always returned. This can lead to tension in the family. The mother is likely to favor the daughter, and that can also lead to trouble when it comes to the family relations. Often the daughter really admires her father, and that is very rewarding for the parents. It makes the family very secure living together.
The most famous family in America is the First Family. It is called the First Family because the President is the head of the family, and he is the first and most important man in America.
The family relations of the First Family often make headlines in the newspapers. President Bush’s family is well known to the American people. He has twin daughters who are young adults, so their social life is always in the newspapers. If their father thinks they are misbehaving, then that will cause problems between family members.
The President before Bill Clinton was George Bush Senior, who is the father of the present President. He is called Senior because they both have the same name. Using Senior at the end of his name tells everybody that he is the father, not the son!
This relationship of the father and the son who both became President of America is remarkable. There is a strong bond between them, and the success of the father has influenced the son, so that he too has become a successful politician.
It often works that way. Nobody knows whether this strong relationship is because of their genetic relationship or because the presidential behavior is copied by his son.
But it shows the remarkable truth that is captured in the well-known saying in English: “Like father, like son.”
