The British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has urged people to be vigilant against the potential terrorist attack. He was speaking after officials raised the national threat level to critical meaning that the terrorists strike could be imminent. Within hours of the warning, police investigating a series of attempted car bombings made two further arrests in the north of England. On Friday two bombs in London were foiled. And on Saturday there was an attack on Glasgow airport by two men, one of whom was badly burned. Denny Shore reports.

The terrorist attacking Glasgow dramatically altered the direction of the London car bombs inquiry and response to the threat. It’s highly significant that Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke who is leading the London investigation decided to go to Scotland himself. That and the similarities between the attacks tend to suggest they were carried out by the same individuals or by members of the same cell. The decision to raise the threat level to critical reflects concern that those responsible have the capability and intent to carry out further bombings.
