extreme 中国人讲究中庸，意思是不要走极端。不是Don t walk extreme，而是Don t go to extreme。 对世间万物，观点（idea, opinion, view, viewpoint)总是因人而异（vary from person to person)。有的人喜欢A胜于B（prefer A to B)，有人偏爱B超过A（favor B over A)。在一定程度上（to some degree, to some extent)，这是再正常不过的事情（Nothing could be more normal than this)， But you go to extreme when you love something to the extent that nothing else ever means anything to you. 可是你偏爱某物达到其余任何东西对你都是垃圾的时候，你就是走了极端了。 一言以蔽之（In a word)，超过一定extent, 就是走了extreme。 imply 我要收藏 “暗示”者，话里有话。 imply中的im=in,“里面”这一层意义可是明示，一点都不隐晦。 What does he imply? 他的话里还有什么话？ 这个问题还可以这样提： What can you infer from his words? 你能从他们话里推也什么来？ infer（推理/推断），是从话“里面”得出意思，所以也是in打头。 各类英语考试的阅读题，常有这样的题型。 What does the author imply? 作者暗示了什么？ What can you infer from the passage? 你能从文中推出什么？ 话里有话的imply是一部分人的表达方式(manner of expression)。一般而言(Generally speaking)，还是以摆在桌面上为主。 所以看express(表达），词头的帽子是ex=out。 imply除了说人话里有话，也可指事物有何含义或意味着什么。 The financial crisis implies great Chinese opportunity. 此次金融危机暗含着巨大的中国机遇。 It implies that China can benefit from the crisis. 这意味着中国可能从危机中获益。 一件事说明一个问题，是老百姓常用句式，其措辞相当丰富。 He is always ready to help. it shows/indicates/implies/suggests/demonstrates/illustrates that he is a nice man. 他常乐于助人；这表明他是个好人。 其中show是赤裸裸地“表明”，imply/indicate不难看出是比较隐晦，suggest与之相类（再不要只知道“建议”了），demonstrate/illustrate长相比较相似且酷，先混个脸熟可也。 再看看名词implication。 It takes quite a while to deal with the economic, political and social implication of the crisis. 要想清楚（deal with)这一危机的经济、政治和社会____，颇需要一些时间。 大概相当于“影响”，本质是“含义”，内含的意义。
