　　英国军情六处(MI6)特工“007”詹姆斯·邦德在无数小说和电影中叱诧风云。英国陆军情报六局（Military Intelligence 6），又称秘密情报局；军情六局，缩写为SIS，代号为MI6。对外又称“政府电信局”或“英国外交部常务次官办事处”。西方情报界把MI6看成是英国情报机关的“开山祖师”，从伊丽莎白的开创初期至今，它和它的前身都是严格保密的，1909年，英国情报机关改组后，MI6的称号一直被沿用下来。军情六局是英国的主要间谍情报机关，它的主要任务是：负责在国内外搜集政治、经济和军事情报，从事间谍情报和国外反间谍活动。首位局长，马呢斯飞尔·克明，是用一个C字母签名，自此以后所有局长都被称为C，C先生。

　　The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), colloquially known as MI6 is the United Kingdoms external intelligence agency, part of the countrys intelligence community. Under the direction of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), it works alongside the Security Service (MI5), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS). Within the civil service community the service is colloquially referred to as Box 850, which comes from its old post office box number.
　　Since 1995, the Secret Intelligence Service has had its headquarters at Vauxhall Cross on the South Bank of the Thames.
　　It should be noted that the British Government did not fully officially acknowledge the existence of SIS or any other security services throughout their existence until 1994.
　　Sir (Robert) John Sawers, KCMG is a British diplomat. He is the current British Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) since August 2007. He is due to take up his new role as Chief of MI6 in November 2009.In July 2009 his family details were removed from the social networking site Facebook.
